A Dream That Came True

CEGA returned to Oregon and all that is the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. As we looked around in amazement, two quotes came to mind: "If you build it, they will come" and "Is this heaven? No, it's Bandon."
We took in a long look at the Pacific and it was time to get this party started. What better way than a glow-in-the-dark scramble at night on Bandon Dunes with your boys? Andy Weyer would get the weekend started early -- bangin' birdie putts in the dark like Todd Stock does in his sleep! Andy Barbano, on the other hand, missed the ball more than once. The team of Weyer, Chris Bjuhr, and Mike Lind ultimately birdied three of four holes and took down the weekend's first competition.
As we walked to the first tee of Pacific Dunes the next morning, wind was howling, rain was sideways, fingertips were freezing, and all was right with the world. After an epic battle with both the course and Mother Nature, Bryan Segale & Barbano would emerge as co-leaders with a pair of net 71's. On their heels were Lind, Weyer, and Bjuhr -- who also managed rounds in the 70's -- while Joe Rainero and Jeb Boss held down the caboose.
After witnessing a brief hiccup in the Warrior's journey to another NBA title, CEGA took it to the poker room. Things got bloody early with some all-in carnage, but Weyer outlasted Lind to take home his third CEGA poker trophy.
As the sun rose on Saturday morning, so too did the nerves. Some managed them with a few darts. Others handled them with a long range session. But one man had already spent an evening numbing them with a flood of Cosmopolitans -- a dangerous strategy that nonetheless proved successful. Despite late charges from Lind (the Rookie of the Year who birdied 3 of the final 5 holes) and Rainero (who shot a net 66), Segale overcame all odds and maybe even destiny itself by edging the bachelor by one shot to win the tourney.
However, Barbano still had something left in the tank. It's safe to say that no one in this crew could be shocked by what they saw during a bachelor party at this stage in life, but the way Barbano kept sticking it in the hole at the Sheep Ranch was downright bestial. After teasing the competition with his dazzling sword play for hours, the money shot finally came with a 12 footer that trickled into the lip -- followed by one final, passionate pelvic thrust. He came. He conquered. Not heaven. But Bandon.
